9×12″ Watercolor by Jamie Wilke
I painted this watercolor outside on the deck at the Budd Family Cottage on Big Bass Lake in Michigan. I painted these lily pads and water lily flower from a photo I took earlier in the day during a long, slow kayak trip to Little Bass Lake to pickup cousin Kami’s paddle board. During the journey I took my time. I captured many photos, sketched a few ‘plein air’ drawings, drank a nice Michigan beer (or two), and gobbled up a whole bag of chips (lunch).
The lily pads and flowers exist in “The Channel” the connects the two lakes: the Big Bass and the Little Bass. Of the many kayak trips I’ve taken in this channel over the years, this was my first solo trip. I had time to sit and enjoy the views and study the flowers. I noticed the reflections and the stems of the lily pads. Also I realized the lily pads were full of many colors other than green. I hope you like my watercolor study of these amazing water plants.
