12×16″ Watercolor Painting by Jamie Wilke
This cabin exists today, near my house in Palmer Lake, CO. I’ve always admired it! It sits on its own full block, which is a rarity in this town since it’s been growing so fast. In this end of summer painting, I wanted to capture the late afternoon sun going down behind the mountains. The descending sun lights up the tops of the trees, and the grass is still showered in sunshine. The cabin is protected by a grouping of mature, stately pine trees. In the distance you see a valley that is the Palmer Lake Reservoir Trail. On the left is Chautauqua Mountain and on the right is Sundance Mountain.
