12×16″ Watercolor Painting by Jamie Wilke
MY INSPIRATION FOR THIS ART
This winter landscape exists in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. My inspiration for the painting is the area north of Winter Park in Grand County: near the towns Fraser and Tabernash. I love to cross country ski in these places, and the views really do look like this from the nordic trails, with the mountain ranges all around you, literally 360 degrees.
You would see this view as you travel down a snow covered dirt road (or ski trail) to reach your mountain cabin retreat nestled in the pines. You witness a magical winter glow as the sun descends behind snow-capped mountains in late afternoon. The snow turns from bright white to hues of blue, violet and magenta. The foreground trees become darker as they frame the still-glowing layers of mountain peaks, pine trees, and soft silver winter aspens.
