This is a quick study painting of the Greenland Open Space Trail with cattle grazing along side the trail. I run this trail often as it is just 1/2 mile from my house. This recreation trail is now shared with livestock from May-October. Sometimes it is quite the challenge to run through a herd of cattle. I’ve found a simple “yah” sometimes does the trick. If they don’t move I turn around or I go off the trail to get around them. Sometimes I can wait a minute for a mountain biker to come by and pave the way for me!

This open space is beautiful, especially in the spring when Greenland is truly “green”. I like the many layers in this landscape. I feel lucky to live in this area with so many dirt trails, national forests, and open spaces. I actually don’t mind running next to cattle as much as next to cars on a paved road.

This is the south end of the trail closer to Palmer Lake, Colorado. The mountains you see in the background are Sundance, Chautauqua, Raspberry and Mount Herman. The north side of this trail extends into Larkspur.
